A comforting twist on a classic, this Sloppy Joe Casserole combines seasoned ground beef, pasta, and melted cheese for a family-favorite dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef (or ground turkey)
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 3 cups cooked pasta (such as elbow macaroni or penne)
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • 1 cup crushed crackers or French fried onions (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add diced onion, green bell pepper, and minced garlic; cook for 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, salt, and pepper. Let simmer for 5-10 minutes.
  5. In a large bowl, mix cooked pasta with beef mixture and 1 cup cheddar cheese.
  6. Pour into the baking dish, top with remaining cheese and optional toppings.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For added flavor, consider using spicy mustard instead of yellow mustard. You can top with fresh herbs for extra taste. This dish shines when made a day ahead.
