The Alaska Roll is a fusion-style sushi roll featuring fresh salmon, creamy avocado, and crisp cucumber, wrapped in sushi rice and nori. It’s a delicious balance of textures and flavors, making it a favorite among sushi lovers.

  • Bamboo Sushi Mat
  • Rice Paddle

Ingredients
  

Sushi Rice

  • cups sushi rice
  • 2 cups water
  • 3 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • ½ tsp salt

Roll Assembly

  • 4 sheets nori (seaweed)
  • 4 oz fresh sushi-grade salmon thinly sliced
  • ½ avocado sliced
  • ¼ cucumber julienned
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds optional

Instructions
 

  • Rinse sushi rice until water runs clear. Cook with water, then mix with rice vinegar, sugar, and salt. Cool to room temp.
  • Place nori on a bamboo sushi mat. Spread rice thinly over nori, leaving a 1-inch border.
  • Flip nori, then layer salmon, avocado, and cucumber in the center.
  • Lift the mat, tucking fillings in, and roll firmly. Moisten the nori edge to seal.
  • Cut each roll into 8 pieces. Sprinkle with sesame seeds. Serve with soy sauce, pickled ginger, or wasabi.

Notes

The Alaska Roll is a great introduction to sushi making. You can substitute raw salmon with smoked salmon for a different flavor profile.
