Salmon belly is a rich, flavorful, and nutritious cut of fish that crisps beautifully when cooked properly. This recipe ensures a golden-brown crust while keeping the inside tender and juicy.

Ingredients

Scale

Salmon Belly

  • 1 lb salmon belly (cut into strips)

Seasonings

  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp cornstarch (optional, for extra crispiness)

Cooking Oil

  • 2 tbsp avocado oil (or vegetable oil)

Instructions

  1. Pat the salmon belly dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
  2. In a bowl, mix the salt, black pepper, garlic powder, paprika, and cornstarch (if using). Season the salmon belly evenly.
  3. Heat a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat and add the avocado oil.
  4. Place the salmon belly in the pan, skin-side down if applicable, and let it cook undisturbed for 2-3 minutes until crispy.
  5. Flip and cook for another 1-2 minutes until golden and fully cooked.
  6. Remove from the pan and drain on paper towels. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce or side dishes.

Notes

For a healthier version, you can air-fry the salmon belly at 375°F for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through. If baking, place the salmon on a wire rack over a baking sheet and bake at 400°F for 12-15 minutes.
