A rich and stable frosting perfect for decorating cakes and cupcakes, combining butter and shortening for a creamy, airy texture.

  • 1 cup vegetable shortening
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2-4 tablespoons milk or heavy cream

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and vegetable shortening together until smooth.
  2. Gradually add in the powdered sugar, mixing on low speed at first.
  3. Once combined, increase the speed to medium and beat until fluffy and light.
  4. Pour in the vanilla extract and mix until fully incorporated.
  5. If the frosting is too thick, add milk or heavy cream one tablespoon at a time until achieving the desired consistency.
  6. Use the buttercream to frost your cakes or cupcakes as desired.

Notes

For a flavored buttercream, consider adding cocoa powder or fruit purees. It pairs wonderfully with chocolate, vanilla, and fruit-flavored desserts.
