Korean Marinated Eggs, or Mayak Gyeran, are a delightful snack soaked in a savory marinade, perfect for any time of day.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large eggs
  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • ¼ cup water
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Green onions for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Start by bringing a pot of water to a boil. Gently add the eggs and let them cook for 7-8 minutes for a perfectly hard-boiled egg.
  2. Once the eggs are done, remove them from the pot and immediately place them in an ice water bath to cool.
  3. While the eggs are cooling, mix together soy sauce, water, sesame oil, minced garlic, sugar, and red pepper flakes in a bowl.
  4. Once the eggs are cool, gently peel off the shells and place them in a sealing container.
  5. Pour the marinade over the peeled eggs, ensuring they are fully submerged.
  6. Seal the container and refrigerate for at least 240 minutes; overnight is best for maximum flavor.
  7. Before serving, garnish with chopped green onions if desired. Enjoy your Korean Marinated Eggs!

Notes

For best results, use fresh eggs, and consider adding a splash of vinegar to the boiling water to make peeling easier.
