Delightful pastries filled with mashed potatoes and wrapped in a golden-brown dough, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups mashed potatoes
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil or melted butter
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Sauté the chopped onion in a bit of oil until golden brown.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the mashed potatoes with the sautéed onions. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. In another bowl, mix the flour, oil, and water to form a dough and knead until smooth.
  5. Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick.
  6. Cut the dough into circles or squares, place a spoonful of potato filling in the center, fold over and seal the edges.
  7. Place knishes on a baking sheet and bake for about 35-40 minutes, until golden brown.

Notes

Ensure your mashed potatoes are not too watery for the best filling texture.
