A delightful treat combining the soft, chewy texture of sourdough focaccia with sweet caramel and apples, perfect for fall gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups sourdough starter, unfed
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm water
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 medium apples, cored and sliced
  • ½ cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • Cinnamon (optional, for dusting)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the sourdough starter, flour, warm water, and salt until well combined.
  2. Cover the bowl with a kitchen towel and let it rest for 4-8 hours until it has doubled in size.
  3. Pour olive oil into a baking pan, then transfer the dough into the pan and stretch it out gently to fit the shape.
  4. Press apple slices into the top and drizzle caramel sauce over them.
  5. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  6. Bake for about 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Allow it to cool slightly before serving for the best texture.

Notes

To achieve the best texture, use a cast iron skillet or a heavy baking dish. Check the focaccia regularly in the oven to prevent over-baking.
